BIZ QUIZ '09

So we guys started off with a Quiz on October 7th exclusively for the FIRST YEARS, owing to very less students turning up few second years(PGDM) too participated!

As i said earlier, was disappointed because of the poor strength.
But guys enjoyed the quiz and it was good to see few audiences actively participating!

Quiz master Mithun Kamal hosted the event well.

The next quiz will be sometime in the first/second week of November which is supposed to be the Miss.QUIZ and will be hosted by Sarah Thomas and Anju.

Academic Year 2008-09: The Quiz Club of PSGIM functioned in full throttle! Let's take you through a whirlwind tour of all the activities of the club, and celebrate our Quizzards who won laurels!

• Biz'olympia'08
  The year opened with a bang! For many of the newcomers on campus, it turned out to be a first date with Biz Quizzing. The event was presented with an Olympic flavour... Rounds were named after the Olympic host cities... and what more... the points table was even called medal tally! And so a 5pointer was a bronze, 10 a silver and 15 worth a gold!

  The Quiz Club of PSGIM conducted an Inter-collegiate Quiz on the sidelines of FinFair'08 – The annual financial Services Exhibition. The event was aptly titled Fin'Q!

Well that was a whooping 24 events in all...one short of a magic 25!!! We now leave it to the juniors to ensure that, representation is made in many more events in the coming academic year and thereafter. Our seniors are known to set tough targets for the juniors to live up to. There is no doubt that juniors would rise to the occasion and carry on the legacy of Business Quizzing at PSGIM!

Thanks to all the people who have been associated with the quiz club - be it the quiz club coordinators, guys who helped us to stage the events successfully and of course the audience who are the lifeline of any quiz show!

Last but not the least; we thank Kavitha Mam, the club's faculty coordinator and our director who supported the club in all possible ways! Thank you Mam... Thank you Sir!

And for one last time, the coordinators of PSGIM Quiz club for the year 2008-09 bid adieu! We certainly miss the fun with the buzzers, the convention hall where we staged almost all the Quiz shows, and of course we miss the mad rush for chocolates... believe us...chocolates never tasted better!

Sona Institute of Management's initiative to bring quality quizzing to this part of the country is very much laudable. We don't get to witness quality quizzes except for the regional leg of competitions like "Tata Crucible" or "ET in Campus". So, it is defenitely an event to look out for, from now on. Our wishes to Sona & Team B^3! Hope it becomes a regular on the quizzin calendar from now on!Though the event was meant to be a National Level Management Quiz - the abscense of teams with pan-Indian representation was felt starkly!

MASTERMINDS'09 - Winners!

It was a riveting finale at this year's Masterminds'09 - The Quiz that happens ever year to crown the champion team in Campus!

The contest was held Xclusive for the first year students - who from now on will take on the reigns of the PSGIM Quiz Club!

Though the turn out was not good, we had an exciting quiz! And it did live up to our campaign which said - LIVE THE THRILL OF QUIZZING!(Remember,it was held on Friday, the 13th!!!)

The contest very much went down to the wire! Going into the final question, we had a tie with the 2 lead teams on 90pts each!!! And more than Knowledge, Reflexes decided the Winners!

However, Mithun Kamal & Vijaya Kumar(I PGDM) held their nerves to hit the buzzar & hit the bull's eye on the final question which was the video Ad of Tata Indicom that had The Pathan family on it!
The runners-up : Karthik Kannan & Sravan(I MBA) came up with some brilliant answers all throughout the show! Manikandan & Saravanan Palanichamy came third.

Of the 6 finalists - 4teams were direct qualifiers and the next 6teams fought it out with their brains for the other 2wild card entries to the finals.

EVENT REVIEW : TATA CRUCIBLE2009 - CAMPUS EDITION - COIMBATORE

The Take-away from TATA Crucible 2009 - Coimbatore Edition:
"Not just the Record number of teams that participated in TATA crucible's debut at kovai, but the quality of quizzing has sent out a strong message - Coimbatore is shaping up into a "powerhouse of Biz Quizzing"!

And With TATA crucible debuting @ kovai(Record no of turn-out for a debut city!!!-->240Teams), it presented an entirely new scenario!! Local colleges in Coimbatore(PSG, GRD, KCT, amirta...) got a chance to take on the might of IIM-K & BIM-Trichy who were the favourites to win the Quiz!!!

Results:
Winners - GRD college - Mohamed & Vishal
Runners - IIM-K (We heard it's their 1st loss in their quizzin career?!!)

Other Finalists - PSGIM, Amirta, PSG Tech & BIM-Trichy

Special Mention - KCT team & the 2gals(ET- trichy winners)from Cauvery College, trichy who put up a good show in the Wild Card Round.


But for the technical/logistical glitch (as claimed by Giri himself) the result could have been otherwise(Could have been a twin victory for Kovai on debut @ home)! And the whole crowd at the show knows it!!! We were particularly unhappy with the IIM team from Kozhikode participating in Coimbatore(rather than Kochi) leg of the Quiz!!

This we feel, defeats the primary objective of the Tata's - "to take its quiz to smaller cities and give teams from such cities some representation at the national level". If IIM's can keep travelling to every other venue by getting some special permissions... even a 20 location Quiz wouldn't make any difference.

Look at the volume of teams that turned up at the Kovai round - 240!! That includes Teams from the entire western, central & southern Tamil Nadu plus we were forced to play gracious hosts to IIM-K and a few more teams from Chennai as well! Teams had to take up the prelims standing and were asked to look at innovative ways to write on the Answer sheet standing!(This could be an another record - Bad Choice of venue!)
Atleast, they could have arranged for an annex where the prelim could have been conducted simultaeneously.



Giri seems to be consistent in under-estimating coimbatore's quizzing potential. This is evident from the prelims of both the recently conducted ET & TATA Crucible Quizzes!

But, finally everyone, we guess...went back home - Happy!!!

After all the GRD - the wild-card entrants, the under-dogs...won! - perfectly matching the flavour of the season! Jai HO!!!

Let's all Cheer the Coimbatore Champs at the National Final!

Masterminds'09 - The Champions league of Quizzing@ PSGIM!!!

Quiz Club -PSG IM invites all 1st yr IM students(in Teams of 2) to be a part of the quizzing Mega-Fest that will span over the next few weeks to crown the "Best Quiz team in Campus"!

Various genres(Sectors) of business will be covered in 3 primary editions followed by the "Grand Finale"! Each of the primary editions will consist of a prelim followed by the finals.

Six finalists from each of the 3 primary editions will automatically Qualify for the Grand Finale!

Is that the only way to qualify for the Grand Finale?
NO! All the participating teams are to be ranked (based on their prelim scores) and will be given wild card entry to participate in the Grand Finale. So Even if you don't make it to the final in any of the Three primary editions... you can still earn an entry for the grand Finale..

So, be Consistent all through the primary editions and earn your team a wild card!
The League of Champions starts on 20th February @ Convention Hall
Friday afternoons(3.30pm onwards...) have been chosen for conducting the event (This is subject to change.)

6th March - Week 3: Technology (It/IteS , Telecom .. etc) , Manufacturing (Auto , Capital goods.. etc) Pharma, Healthcare & Tourism
13th march - Week 4 - The Grand Finale at the Amphitheatre!
After the first 3 weeks, all the finalists of the 3 primary editions along with the wild card entries are eligible for the prelims and they will compete in the Mega finals which would be held at the Amphitheatre!

*Retain the same team name in all the primary editions

AIMA NSMQ'09 - Coimbatore regionals - RESULTS!

Hi!

The regional round of AIMA NSMQ at coimbatore recieved a poor response with only a handful of teams turning out!However it was heartening to see a few teams coming all the way from Banglore & Manglore for the event!!!

AIMA-RBS NATIONAL STUDENT MANAGEMENT QUIZ - South Zone @ PSGIM- Coimbatore!

The much awaited AIMA's NSMQ is ready to Rock the Business Quizzin Circuit! The South zone REGIONALS as usual is set to happen at the convention hall - PSGIM!! The Quiz comes to coimbatore from Pune(16th) and then travels to patna, bhuvaneshwar, lucknow, jaipur and travels to Delhi on on 27th feb for the Grand Finale!

Last yr, it was cracker of a quiz in which teams fought tooth&nail but it was PSGIM's Nigil&Prem who emerged winners!

GLADIATRIX'08 - CAMPUS QUIZ REVIEW!

Hi ppl..

Foreword : Sorry for the delay in posting this review!!

Gladiatrix'08... the 1st quiz show to be hosted at the AmphiTheatre after a looooong time(almost after 2-3yrs is what we heard) turned out to be an instant hit! We had more than 50 teams which bet all our expectations!!!

All about the event:
5.30pm... and the Amphi was almost packed to its full capacity! But the prelims didn't start yet.. Why??? Well though we ran a test show the day before the event... and confirmed that the projection from the LCD was visible after 5.30pm... somehow the next day the sun took some more time to set and so.. we had to wait for some time before we could started the prelims.. Technical problems did bother us as well..

The evening started off with Ajay(the man who got us the questions for the very interesting online quiz Q-Factor!) discussing the answers of Q-Factor and declaring the Winners!

6.20pm..
Finally, the prelims started off and the results were out by 6.55pm. The Finals kicked off in style with Round1 - Starters!

7pm... and we had the finalists on stage...
The Finalists were

Team A - Suriya Prakash & Team I MBA
Team B - Sangamoovan & Team II PGDM
Team C - Karthikeyan & Team I MBA
Team D - Ajay & Indra Kumar II MBA
Team E - Anand & Rafi II MBA
Team F - Vasanth&ManojKumar II PGDM

Round1 - Starters
Round2 - Unscramble
Round3 - Connect
Round4 - Formula of Success - Formula Round
Round5 - Audio/Visual

We were forced to cut it down to 5rounds against the actually planned 6rounds for the lack of time.

Team D took the early lead and retained it all through the finals but they were always at vigil as Team E was always following close behind them.
The final round of the show - the AV round was riveting finale to the event.. With cracker of questions and incredible answers both from the finalists and the audience!
Audience kept the show very much alive... all fighting it with their wit for loads of chocolates and gift vouchers!

Final scores
Team A - 15pts,Team B -
25pts,Team C - 30pts,Team D - 65pts,Team E - 52pts,Team F - 28pts

Team F(Ajay & Indra Kumar) were crowned the winners of Gladiatrix'o8. They won themselves gift vowchers worth Rs.2500!!!
Keeping them in good competition all through the way was Team E(Anand&Rafi) - who were the runners-up of the event. They won gift vowchers worth Rs.1000!

Others teams won Gift Vowchers worth Rs.100 each. Audience also won a few Vowchers for their answers!

In all it was a great evening for the students who turned up and most importantly turned out to be great eveing for the legacy of quizzing at PSGIM! For sure.. this is a rebirth!
